The National College for School Leadership: A Successful English Innovation?

Tony Bush In the U.S., the National College for School Leadership in England has been hailed as an outstanding example of innovation in the preparation of educational leaders. In England, there are mixed views about the achievements and influence of NCSL. Its conception represents a paradigm shift but it has pursued scale at the expense of depth. This article outlines the origins, aims, and signature features of NCSL, discusses the criticisms leveled against it, and presents some lessons for U.S. universities.
