On Location: Using School Classrooms as Sites for Preparing Teachers of Mathematics
Phi Delta Kappan, Vol. 88, No. 09 (May 2007): 686-690. Laura Grandau, Mark A. Landis, and Kelly Ryan Helping prospective teachers make connections between the theoretical and empirical work they read about and instructional practices in school classrooms is an important part of teacher education. The authors -- two preservice teachers and their math methods instructor -- describe focused learning activities that build this link. They explain how opportunities for prospective teachers to hear, make sense of, and respond to mathematical ideas in the classroom proved to be a powerful learning experience during preservice development.
