The No Child Left Behind legislation has caused American teachers to create teaching strategies designed to improve the scores derived through low-level cognitive testing. Instead of resorting to 'teaching to the test' strategies, Mr. Mitchell chose to craft a classroom curriculum designed to raise money to buy a piano for a young Brazilian boy who came from poverty circumstances. These sixth-grade students planned a creative musical fund raiser that raised the necessary funds -- and then some!
