The Brown Center on Education has issued a seriously flawed report that is a thinly veiled attack on progressive education. The study misrepresents what is needed to motivate students and increase their achievement, and provides no insight into the variables that increase student motivation and engagement. It's a perfect example of the reactionary currents that are a serious obstacle to needed changes in our educational paradigm. Whatever its excesses and limitations, the perspective provided by progressive education is more helpful right now than studies like this one from the Brown Center, which is misleading and counterproductive to needed educational change.
